Author(s): Akhilesh Mishra and Prasenjit Kundu
Abstract: This research paper explores the legal provisions for social security of workers, with a focus on the frameworks designed to protect workers’ rights in the context of health, employment, and financial security. The study delves into the evolution of social security laws, analyzing the key national and international legal instruments that shape workers' entitlements. By examining various legal provisions, such as pensions, unemployment benefits, health insurance, and workers' compensation, the paper assesses the effectiveness of these systems in safeguarding workers, particularly in the face of emerging economic challenges, such as the gig economy and informal labor markets. Furthermore, the paper critiques existing gaps in the social security framework, especially for vulnerable and marginalized groups, and suggests potential reforms to strengthen legal safeguards. Drawing on comparative case studies and international best practices, the research offers recommendations for enhancing the inclusivity and sustainability of social security systems globally. Through this analysis, the paper aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse on improving legal protections for workers in the modern labour landscape.
