Abstract: The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, introduced in 2012, stands as a pivotal piece of legislation in India, crafted to defend children from various forms of sexual abuse and exploitation. This inclusive law addresses offenses such as sexual harassment, assault, and child pornography, enforcing strict penalties on offenders. Notably, the POCSO Act incorporates a child-centred approach for reporting, collecting evidence, and trial procedures, aiming to uphold the rights and needs of child victims. The Act mandates the prompt completion of investigations and trials, emphasizing the significance of timely justice in these delicate cases. Additionally, it provides for victim care and protection during the legal process, acknowledging the profound psychological effects that such offenses can have on children.
